Rain and strong winds reaching up to 50kph have been forecast in the UAE on Sunday, with temperatures also expected to drop.

The weather will be cloudy, with rainfall over scattered areas and a “significant drop in temperature”, the UAE’s National Center of Meteorology (NCM) said in its weather bulletin.

“An extension of surface trough of low pressure over the country has been accompanied with an upper trough,” the NCM said.

Temperatures will vary between 13 degrees celsius and 27 degrees celsius in the internal areas and between 14 degrees – 24 degrees in the coastal areas. The mountainous areas, the maximum expected is 20 degrees celsius with the minimum reaching 8 degrees celsius.

Strong winds could also cause blowing dust and sand over the exposed areas, the NCM warned.

It also urged sea-goers to be cautious as winds reaching speeds of 55 km/h could cause wave heights of 6-10 feet from 3am on Sunday until 3am on Monday.

“Sea will be rough to very rough in the Arabian Gulf and rough in Oman Sea”, the bulletin said.

Similar weather conditions are predicted for the rest of the week, with clouds set to clear up by Thursday, the NCM said.
