Mall operator Majid Al Futtaim opened 36,000 square metres of retail, dining and entertainment space at its flagship Mall of the Emirates in Dubai on Monday.
The expansion includes a much bigger VOX cinema complex, comprising 24 screens.
The complex will feature 16 traditional cinema halls, one IMAX hall, two VOX Kids screens, one 4DX screen and four screens inside a luxury cinema experience called THEATRE by Rhodes.
The tickets will be priced upwards from Dhs 35, with the most expensive reaching Dhs 160.
The IMAX screen, featuring a new laser technology, is the biggest in the Middle East, according to Majid Al Futtaim.
The 4DX screen is also the biggest of its kind in the region.
The two Kids halls will screen "family-oriented" films and can also be booked by groups for special events.
Alongside the halls are party areas where catering can be organised for birthday parties or special gatherings.
Apart from movies, the screens can also be used for playing games or displaying other videos.
Officials said a wide range of children's movies are available in the library to play upon booking. Prices are the same as regular rates.
The uber-luxury option within the VOX complex, THEATRE By Rhodes is an all-new concept created in partnership with Michelin star chef Gary Rhodes.
The venue will feature a range of exclusive dishes along with finger food and fancy popcorn.
There are four screens within the area with a lounge where customers can choose to dine.
Each hall features 36 luxurious seats, with tickets priced at Dhs 160 each.
Majid Al Futtaim is hoping to take its new VOX concepts across several of its malls throughout the region.
Apart from VOX, Mall of the Emirates has also added 40 new retail and food and beverage outlets.
Some of the new brands to come on-board include Jane Norman and UK-based All Saints.
Juicy Couture is also making a stand-alone entrance to the mall.
Among F&B outlets, Din Tai Fung and 800 Degrees Pizza are new to Dubai.
Omnia Baharat, Dean & Deluca, Eat Greek Kouzina are also new restaurants located next to the cinema complex.
The overall Mall of the Emirates expansion project cost Dhs 1bn and also includes 1,300 new parking spaces and a new taxi arrival facility.
