Paid parking boards have come up in the Barsha Heights area of Dubai – one of the last few places in the emirate where public parking is free.

The zone has been earmarked ‘A’ meaning the rate will stand at Dhs4 per hour – the highest charge at present in Dubai.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has not yet announced an official confirmation of when paid parking in the area will begin.

Barsha Heights, which was earlier called Tecom, falls under the Tecom group – part of Dubai Holding. The area features residential and commercial buildings, serviced apartments and hotels.

Currently, most of the public parking zones in Dubai are paid, with the RTA changing rates and timings in May 2016.

Under the revised system, charges at zones A, E and G are priced at Dhs4 per hour, zone B at Dhs3 per hour and zones C, D and F at Dhs2 per hour.

The free parking period between 1pm to 4pm was also abolished with charges applicable from 8.00am to 10.00pm.

The fare in multi-level parking terminals was also raised from Dhs3 to Dhs5 per hour.

RTA officials said at the time that the move was intended to “increase the rotation of using parking slots in high-demand areas in order to make them available to the largest possible number of users”.
