Omani low cost carrier SalamAir launched its first direct flight to Sialkot in Pakistan yesterday under plans to expand services to the country.

On May 23 the airline also plans to launch direct flights to Multan with three weekly flights scheduled for both locations.

“Sialkot and Multan of Pakistan are known for their dense population which are under utilised to date, especially there are more than 220,000 Pakistanis residing in the Sultanate,” said François Bouteiller, CEO of SalamAir, according to Times of Oman.

SalamAir also plans to launch flights to Taif and increase flights to Madinah during Ramadan.

The carrier began services this year with flights between Muscat and Salalah.

Bouteiller told Reuters last month that SalamAir was expecting to transport between 750,000 and 800,000 people this year and aimed to turn its first profit in 2018.
