An Oman Air flight travelling from Muscat to Munich on Saturday was diverted after the smell of smoke was detected onboard, the airline confirmed.

Flight WY123, which departed from the Omani capital at 2.30pm on March 4, was diverted to Sofia, in Bulgaria.

The A330 aircraft was diverted “due to the smell of smoke coming from the inflight entertainment system,” the airline said on Twitter.

“Engineers are currently working to fix this issue.

“Oman Air places the highest importance on the safety of our passengers and crew,” it added.

Meanwhile, the airline also said on Saturday that passengers on its flight from Muscat to Delhi were hit by air turbulence.

The Boeing 737 jet safely landed at the Delhi airport and all the affected passengers received the “required medical assistance”, the airline said in a statement on Twitter, without elaborating.
