Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) authority has announced that it has awarded a tax-free trade license to the American basketball champion Kobe Bryant.

The trade license will allow the LA Lakers’ player to operate a business from Dubai that will be owned entirely by him with no corporate taxes levied on the business.

“Now the largest and fastest growing free zone in the UAE with a growing global presence, we are excited to introduce Kobe – who continuously inspires people across the globe in sports and in business – to the DMCC corporate family by presenting him with a DMCC free zone business license”, said Ahmed Bin Sulayem, executive chairman, DMCC.

“This is my first trip to Dubai, I’m going to use it to learn about the cultural and business priorities of the region and to understand how they align with my core competencies,” said Bryant.

Bryant, on his visit to the UAE, aims to promote awareness about the dangers of diabetes among the youth. As a part of Kobe Bryant Health and Fitness Week, he will participate in a youth basketball clinic with 40 students from the GEMS American academy in Abu Dhabi.

Bryant will also be joined by players from the Real Madrid basketball “Legends” team, giving the students access to quality training from some of the best in the business.

The UAE and much of the GCC population suffer from risk of various lifestyle diseases.

According to the International Diabetes Federation, almost 19 per cent of the UAE population suffers from diabetes.
