Al Kooheji was appointed as the CEO of Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat in March 2012 and oversees its $6.4bn of assets under management. The firm has stakes in almost 40 companies and he sits on the boards of many of them including Gulf Air, McLaren Group and Arab Petroleum Investment Corporation. Al Kooheji is reportedly looking to double the sovereign fund’s assets in the next seven years through partnerships with global investment firms. Its acquisitions in 2015 included private education company Nobel Learning, software and services firm Pro Unlimited and a stake in GEMS Education. He previously served as chairman of Aluminium Bahrain from 2008 to 2014.
