Jumeirah Group has confirmed it will operate a 294-room resort on Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Island in 2017.

Set on the north-east coast, the property will contain spa and presidential suites as well as private high-end villas. F&B outlets will include two signature restaurants, all-day dining venue, lobby lounge and bar, pool and beach bars, retail shops and outdoor beach and pool areas.

The architecture, interior design, landscape and master planning will be completed by DBI Design Corporation, who also designed Jumeirah at Etihad Towers.

While that city-based property has upscale leisure facilities, the new resort will enable Jumeirah to target more aggressively the luxury leisure market and the announcement indicates that hotel development on Saadiyat, currently restricted to St Regis and Park Hyatt, is stepping up a gear.

On completion, the Saadiyat Island masterplan features seven districts, which will house 150,000 people, and include headline attractions such as The Louvre and Guggenheim museums. The agreement was signed with HH Sheikh Suroor bin Mohammed Al Nahyan.

Jumeirah currently operates 22 hotels, resorts and residences, including 11 in the Middle East, six in Europe and five in Asia, and has a further 26 in the pipeline.
