Hijri New Year in UAE: Public parking and toll charges free

Saturday, July 30 has been declared an official paid holiday for all public and private sector employees in the UAE

The Islamic New Year, also called the Hijri New Year, will fall on July 30 this year. The Integrated Transport Centre, Abu Dhabi (ITC) has announced that public parking fees and toll charges will not be collected during the Hijri New Year holiday on Saturday, July 30.

The parking will be free of charge during the holiday starting July 30 until 7:59am on August 1.

Additionally, Mussafah Industrial area parking lot M18 will be free of charge during the official holiday.

It also announced that Customers’ Happiness Centres across Abu Dhabi will be closed during the holiday. Customers may continue to apply for ITC’s services via its website, as well as Darb and Darbi smart apps.

In addition, customers may contact the unified Service Support Centre of the Department of Municipalities and Transport on 800850 or Taxi Call Centre: 600535353 to request services 24/7.

The ITC called on motorists to avoid parking in prohibited areas and blocking traffic movement. It urged them to park properly in the designated areas and avoid parking in residential parking spaces from 9:00pm until 8:00am.

The Darb toll system will be free of charge during the holiday starting from Saturday, and the normal toll system will be reactivated on Monday during the peak hours (from 7:00am to 9:00am and from 5:00pm to 7:00pm from Monday to Saturday).

Regarding the public bus services operating hours in Abu Dhabi, the ITC stated that the services will operate based on the usual unified schedule throughout the week.

Saturday, July 30, will be an official paid holiday for all public and private sector employees in the UAE to mark the occasion.

The Islamic New Year, marks the start of the Muslim lunar calendar. It is observed by the faithful on the first day of the month of Muharram.
