Hijri New Year is likely to fall on Sunday, September 1, in the UAE, according to astronomers.

The UAE has already declared that the first day of Muharram, marking the Hijri New Year, will be a holiday for public and private sector workers in the country.

According to astronomers, the crescent marking the start of the Islamic month will most likely be spotted in the UAE and most of the world on August 31, Gulf News reported.

That will mean that the Hijri New Year will fall on Sunday, September 1.

The UAE’s moon-sighting committee will make an official announcement about the date on Friday, August 30 evening.
