Dubai’s Global Village cancels all upcoming concerts over coronavirus concerns

The current season at one of Dubai’s most popular entertainment destinations ends on April 4

On Tuesday, Global Village in Dubai announced that it was cancelling all its upcoming concerts for the remainder of the ongoing season which ends on April 4.

The new preventive measure is designed to contain the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus which has gripped countries around the world.

The UAE health ministry on Tuesday reported 15 new cases of the coronavirus Covid-19 in the country, taking the total number of infections up to 74.

The new cases included people who were in contact with previously detected cases as well as others who had entered the UAE from foreign destinations.

The statement by Global Village added: “We have decided to postpone our remaining concerts until Season 25. This is a preventative measure due to crowd density at these events.”

The current Season 24 at Global Village began on October 29, 2019 and will end next month.

There were reportedly over 7 million visitors recorded in the 2018-2019 season of Global Village.

At the start of the current season, the organisers at Global Village said that they expected to host over 40,000 live shows representing over 78 countries.

Previous concerts at Global Village this season have included performances by Elissa, Assala Nasri, Miami Band and Atif Aslam, each of which were attended by several hundred people.
