Low cost carrier Flydubai has announced plans to fly to Finland’s capital Helsinki from later this year.

Direct flights from Dubai International Airport to Helsinki-Vantaa Airport will begin on October 11, operated by Flydubai’s new Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft.

The airline said it would be the first to offer a year-round service between Dubai and Helsinki.

The flight may be the longest on its network to date with current direct services offered by other airlines during the Winter taking roughly seven to seven-and-a-half hours each way.

“We remain committed to opening up previously underserved markets and to providing more travel options to fly to Dubai and beyond,” said Flydubai chief commercial officer Hamad Obaidalla.

Sister airline Emirates will codeshare on the route following a partnership deal announced last year.

Business fares will start at Dhs8,500 ($2,314) and economy fares Dhs1,500 ($408) with promotional rates offered for booking made until May 31.

Visit Finland said overnight visitors from the UAE increased 30 per cent last year.

Flydubai also began flights to the Democratic Republic of Congo’s capital Kinshasa, the Croatian city of Dubrovnik and Polish city of Krakow this month.
