As chairman and CEO of Maser Group, Prateek Suri has built a diversified business group with interests spanning infrastructure, mining, artificial intelligence, logistics, and industrial supply chains. His entrepreneurial
journey reflects the rise of a new generation of business leaders building global enterprises from emerging markets.
Based in Dubai, Suri is among a select group of entrepreneurs who have built significant businesses across Africa and the Middle East. Recognised as one of the wealthiest Indians in Africa and among the youngest billionaires connected to the continent’s business ecosystem, he has played a role in shaping investment and commercial opportunities across multiple sectors.
Born in New Delhi and educated at BITS Pilani Dubai Campus, Suri began his entrepreneurial journey shortly after graduation. Rather than pursuing a traditional corporate career, he chose to build businesses from the ground up, navigating the challenges of emerging markets and developing a reputation for resilience and execution.
His breakthrough came through Maser Group’s consumer electronics division. Under his leadership, the company expanded across multiple African and Middle Eastern markets, establishing a strong presence in televisions, air conditioners, audio systems, and home appliances. By focusing on distribution, affordability, and local market understanding, Maser evolved into one of Africa’s notable consumer technology success stories.
The company’s rapid growth led to Maser Group being recognised as Africa’s seventh unicorn, placing it among a select group of businesses to achieve such a milestone on the continent. The achievement highlighted both the scale of the company and the growing importance of African consumer markets in the global economy.
At the end of 2024, Maser Group completed the successful exit of its consumer electronics division after achieving annual revenues exceeding $1bn. Following the transaction, Suri expanded the group’s focus through MDR Investments, the investment and strategic development arm of Maser Group, with interests spanning infrastructure, mining, shipping and logistics, artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and energy.
Artificial intelligence has emerged as a key strategic priority. Through MDR Investments, Suri has explored opportunities in AI-enabled data centres and digital infrastructure, reflecting his belief that advanced computing capabilities will become increasingly important to future economic competitiveness. Alongside technology investments, the group has expanded into gold and copper mining, infrastructure, and logistics, reinforcing its focus on sectors that underpin long-term economic development.
