Olayan Mohammed Alwetaid

Olayan Mohammed Alwetaid is group CEO of stc Group, Saudi Arabia’s leading telecommunications operator with one of the largest subscriber bases in the region. He was appointed CEO in 2021 after more than two decades of progressive leadership within the company, demonstrating deep industry knowledge and strategic vision.

He previously served as CEO of stc Bahrain, overseeing operations across a key regional market, and later as SVP of the Consumer Business Unit, where he oversaw commercial operations, customer-focused transformation initiatives, and revenue growth strategies. These roles provided comprehensive experience across regional markets and consumer segments.

His leadership has coincided with stc Group’s strategic transformation beyond traditional telecommunications into broader digital infrastructure and services, including cloud computing platforms, cybersecurity solutions, fintech services, advanced data centres, and enterprise digital solutions. This diversification has positioned the group as a comprehensive digital infrastructure provider across the GCC and beyond. The group plays a central role in Saudi Arabia’s digital transformation agenda under Vision 2030, supporting both government and private sector demand for connectivity, data management, and digital infrastructure. stc has invested substantially in 5G deployment, fibre-optic networks, and digital ecosystem development to support economic diversification and innovation.

Alwetaid holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, providing technical foundation for his telecommunications expertise. He has served in leadership roles across industry councils, including the SAMENA Telecommunications Council, where he contributes to regional industry standards and strategy.
