Mohamed Karim Mounir
Chairman and CEO | Banque Centrale Populaire
06 July, 2026
Mohamed Karim Mounir is chairman and CEO of Banque Centrale Populaire (BCP), one of Morocco’s largest banking groups. BCP announced his appointment as president director general in November 2018, following a board decision that confirmed his elevation to the top role.
Mounir is a long-serving BCP executive. He became CEO in 2018, after previously serving as general director of the company since 1997.
BCP is a major commercial banking group with cooperative banking roots and a wide presence across Morocco and Africa. The group has 10 cooperative banks in Morocco and operates in 24 countries through subsidiaries. Mounir’s mandate has centred on maintaining BCP’s domestic strength while supporting international growth, digital transformation and financial inclusion. His leadership also matters because Moroccan banking groups have become important regional platforms, expanding across francophone Africa and supporting trade, remittances and corporate finance. His background is deeply tied to the bank’s institutional evolution. MarketScreener lists him as chairman of Banque Centrale Populaire and CEO of Upline Group, while also noting his board roles and educational background at École Mohammadia d’Ingénieurs and Conservatoire National des Arts
et Métiers. Mounir’s profile is therefore less about a sudden rise and more about continuity, institutional knowledge and long-term execution at one of Morocco’s most systemically important financial institutions.
