06 July, 2026
Mohamed El Kettani is chairman and CEO of Attijariwafa Bank, one of Morocco’s most influential financial institutions and a major banking group across Africa. The bank’s investor relations platform says he was appointed chairman and CEO in 2007, after joining Banque Commerciale du Maroc in 1984.
El Kettani’s career has tracked the expansion of Moroccan banking beyond domestic borders. He joined the group’s credit investment department, later became managing director in 1994 and co-CEO in charge of corporate and investment banking and private banking in 2003. He is a graduate of ENSTA ParisTech. Under his leadership, Attijariwafa Bank has grown into a pan-African financial services platform, with activities spanning retail banking, corporate banking, insurance, asset management and capital markets.
His long tenure gives him rare institutional depth in a sector where Moroccan banks have become key channels for trade and investment flows across North, West and Central Africa. Recent governance changes have also reinforced the bank’s succession and management structure. Financial Afrik reported in September 2025 that Attijariwafa Bank, under El Kettani’s leadership, promoted Rachid Kettani to deputy CEO in charge of the Retail Banking Division, reflecting efforts to strengthen management and support the group’s development strategy.
El Kettani has also received regional recognition, including being promoted to Commander of Côte d’Ivoire’s National Order in 2019, highlighting the bank’s wider African footprint.
