Mark Thomas

A distinguished energy industry executive with 38 years of global leadership experience and a proven record of driving transformation, operational excellence, and value creation across the international oil and gas sector.

As group CEO of Bapco Energies, Thomas leads the entity responsible for managing the government of Bahrain’s strategic investments in the energy sector, overseeing a diversified portfolio of companies spanning the full oil and gas value chain, including exploration, midstream infrastructure, refining, and petrochemicals.

Since assuming leadership of Bapco Energies, formerly known as the Oil and Gas Holding Company (nogaholding), Thomas has been instrumental in advancing the organisation’s strategy, strengthening integration across its subsidiaries, and enhancing financial and operational performance. Reporting to the board of directors and chairman Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, he is responsible for delivering the group’s strategic vision and ensuring sustainable growth across Bahrain’s energy portfolio.

Throughout his career, Thomas has operated across nine countries and conducted business in more than 20 markets, bringing extensive expertise in strategic transactions, commercial optimisation, governance, and operational leadership. In addition to his role at Bapco Energies, he serves as chairman of the Board of Bahrain National Gas Company, deputy chairman of Bahrain Petroleum Company, and board member of Tatweer Petroleum.

Mark holds an MBA from European University and a bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the University of New Brunswick. His leadership continues to support Bapco Energies’ evolution as a key driver of Bahrain’s energy sector growth, investment strategy, and long-term economic development.
