Dr Marwan Al Kaabi

The CEO of one of the UAE’s largest hospitals for serious and complex care and a subsidiary of PureHealth, the largest healthcare group in the Middle East, is a highly accomplished healthcare executive and medical doctor. Dr Al Kaabi brings more than 20 years of experience in clinical practice, healthcare operations, crisis management, and organisational leadership. He is widely recognised for driving operational excellence, enhancing patient care outcomes, and strengthening enterprise risk management across complex healthcare environments.

Prior to joining SSMC, Dr Al Kaabi served as chief of Critical Infrastructure Management and Response at PureHealth, where he played a pivotal role in safeguarding critical infrastructure and essential healthcare functions. In this capacity, he led the development and implementation of incident and crisis management frameworks, while establishing robust security protocols and health and safety standards that enhanced organisational resilience and preparedness.

Under Dr Al Kaabi’s leadership, SSMC has further strengthened its position as a leading centre for complex and critical care, advancing Abu Dhabi’s ambitions to become a global hub for medical excellence. As the largest complex and critical-care facility within PureHealth Group, SSMC has expanded its role in delivering highly specialised services, including burn care, comprehensive stroke care and robotic surgery, while advancing research and education. The hospital has also accelerated digital transformation and the adoption of artificial intelligence to improve clinical efficiency and patient outcomes.

Among the most significant achievements during his tenure was SSMC’s landmark recognition in 2024, when the hospital received the prestigious Joint Commission International (JCI) Academic Medical Centre Accreditation Gold Seal of Approval.

This historic accomplishment established SSMC as the first academic medical centre in the UAE and the first hospital in Abu Dhabi to achieve this distinction, reflecting excellence in medical education, clinical research, quality improvement, patient safety, and healthcare performance. In 2025, SSMC achieved further international recognition at the International Hospital Federation (IHF) Awards.

The hospital received the Legacy Achievement Recognition of the Dr Kwang Tae Kim Grand Hospital Award, the IHF’s highest honour, in recognition of outstanding performance across quality, patient experience, clinical outcomes, cost efficiency, and workforce wellbeing. SSMC was also awarded an honourable mention in the Dr Prathap C Reddy Excellence Award for Clinical Quality and Patient Safety, underscoring its commitment to innovation, patient safety, and continuous improvement.
