UAE residents who use CashNow micro-loans will now have the borrowing reflected in their credit reports, under the latest expansion of the country’s credit reporting system.
Etihad Credit Bureau (ECB) said micro-loan account information from providers including CashNow, submitted by Botim Finance, formerly known as Quantix, has been incorporated into UAE credit reports.
The move means banks, lenders and other authorised institutions will be able to see a broader range of consumers’ financial commitments when assessing applications for credit.
It follows Etihad Credit Bureau’s recent inclusion of Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) products in credit reports, as short-term and digital forms of borrowing become an increasingly significant part of the UAE’s consumer finance market.
The latest change applies to both existing and new CashNow customers and includes relevant historical account information.
Etihad Credit Bureau said incorporating the data would provide lenders with a more complete picture of an individual’s existing financial obligations, supporting credit assessments and risk-management decisions.
“The UAE’s financial landscape continues to evolve, with consumers accessing credit through an increasingly diverse range of products and digital channels,” said Brian Gambin, director of partnerships at Etihad Credit Bureau.
“Following our recent inclusion of Buy Now, Pay Later data, the commencement of micro-loan data submissions such as CashNow from Botim Finance marks another important step in broadening the information captured within UAE credit reports.”
He said the information would give participating financial institutions and other authorised entities a more comprehensive view of consumers’ financial commitments.
More than one million CashNow profiles
Botim Finance has submitted micro-loan account data linked to more than one million CashNow customer profiles to Etihad Credit Bureau since the second quarter of 2025, according to Dr Tariq BinHendi, CEO of Botim and CEO and board member of Astra Tech.
The inclusion of the data also means customers’ repayment behaviour can contribute to their formal credit history.
“Credit reporting and scoring are not only tools for assessing risk; they also create a pathway to financial participation,” BinHendi said.
“For CashNow users, timely repayment can become part of their formal credit history, helping individuals strengthen their credit profiles over time and access a wider range of regulated financial services.”
The development comes after Etihad Credit Bureau began incorporating BNPL account information from Tabby and Tamara into UAE credit reports in July, including relevant historical transactions.
Together, the changes broaden the range of borrowing visible within the UAE’s credit reporting system beyond traditional products such as bank loans and credit cards, as regulators and lenders adapt to the growth of app-based and short-term finance.
