Emirates To Fly A380s To Dusseldorf And Madrid

Emirates’ superjumbo network in European grows to 13 points

Gulf Business

Dusseldorf and Madrid will join Emirates’ A380 superjumbo network from July 1 and August 1 respectively.

EK055 will depart Dubai at 0830 and land in Dusseldorf at 1325, while EK056 will depart Dusseldorf at 1525 and arrive at Dubai International Airport at 2355. EK141 departs Dubai at 0740 and arrives in Madrid at 1340 with EK142 due to leave Madrid at 1530 and landing in Dubai at 0045 the next day.

Both moves are significant, not only in terms of the added capacity that the A380 offers over the B777-300ER, but also shows Emirates is making progress in delving deeper into European primary and secondary markets (A380 European network now stands at 13 points).

Madrid becomes Emirates’ second A380 gateway in Spain, after Barcelona came on stream in February last year.

Emirates’ expansion further raises the competitive stakes with Lufthansa which, although serving Dubai from Munich and Frankfurt, may now see connecting traffic dwindle. With Etihad about to fly its first B787-9 Dreamliner to Dusseldorf, the German city is increasingly becoming a focal point for Gulf carriers.

Hubert Frach, Emirates’ Divisional SVP, Commercial Operations – West, said: “By introducing new A380 services out of Dusseldorf and Madrid, our customers can enjoy seamless connectivity…to popular destinations in Asia, Africa, Indian Ocean, Australia and the Middle East, via our Dubai hub.”
