Earthquake hits Afghanistan, strong tremors felt in Delhi-NCR

Strong tremors jolted parts of northern India, including Delhi-NCR, on March 21, Tuesday night as a magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region.

There was no immediate report of any deaths or property damage. The earthquake struck 133 kilometres southeast of Fayzabad in Afghanistan, according to a report by the National Centre for Seismology.

Tremors were felt in Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “Strong tremors of the earthquake were felt across Delhi NCR. Hope you all are safe.”

Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj also took to Twitter and said, “Huge earthquake. In our Delhi Secretariat building, my chair was shaking for 30 seconds.”
