Dubai’s upcoming Museum of the Future has announced an accelerator programme designed to help it provide a futuristic visitor experience.

The museum project, first unveiled in 2015, was due to open last year but has been pushed back until the end of 2019. It is being funded by a Dhs10 ($2.72) fee charged by certain government institutions on each transaction.

Dubai Media Office said the museum’s initiative would be supported by the established Dubai Future Accelerators programme, which teams government departments with private sector companies to address key challenges. The third edition of the programme was launched in March.

The Museum of the Future will fly in 15 selected companies to demonstrate their technology, develop pilot project proposals and compete for funded projects to be integrated into the attraction when it opens.

The museum itself, located next to Emirates Towers, is intended to showcase futuristic technology and new ways of living.

Companies are being asked to apply for one of three challenges.

The first involves advanced wearable devices that can be used in combination with sensors to “provide a truly incredible visitor experience”.

The second involves the use of artificial intelligence and social companions to create a personalised experienced using chatbots and the third challenge involves the use of AR and VR technology to create a dynamic and interactive experience for visitors, including people of determination.

“We invite all the selected companies to come to Dubai to test and showcase their most innovative technologies,” said executive director of future platforms at Dubai Future Foundation Saeed Al Falasi.

Companies have until May 30 to apply on the Museum of the Future website www.museumofthefuture.ae.

When finished, the museum will host a major event space, a theatre, classrooms, and partnership labs on top of its main offering.
