Dubai carrier Emirates has confirmed that it will codeshare on sister airline Flydubai’s upcoming flights to Krakow in Poland and Catania in Italy.
Flydubai announced the new flights last month and will begin services to Krakow on April 8 and Catania on June 13.
The route to Catania, located on the Italian island of Sicily, is the carrier’s first in southern Europe.
Emirates said the additions would bring the number of codeshare routes between the two to 81.
The partnership of Dubai’s two government-owned airlines was first confirmed in July and could eventually see both carriers operate from the same terminal at Dubai International Airport.
One issue facing passengers for now is that the minimum connection time between Flydubai’s Terminal 2 and Emirates’ Terminal 3 is two hours, making some codeshares unviable.
Emirates said 165,000 passengers had benefitted from codeshare flights in the first two months since they began on October 29.
Together the two carriers fly to more than 216 destinations and have a combined fleet of over 317 wide-body aircraft and Boeing 737s. They are expected to reach a collective 240 destinations and 380 aircraft by 2022.
