Dubai’s upcoming Dhs120 billion aerotropolis, Dubai World Central (DWC) has announced plans to develop a new logistics park within its Logistics District, which will include warehouses, offices and other amenities.

The park, slated for completion in the first quarter of 2015, will offer a total built-up area of 34,000 square meters (sqm), while facilities will have a minimum area of 1,000 sqm.

DWC has also started construction on the fourth complex of agent warehouses in the Logistics District, and expects to open them for leasing in the first quarter of 2014, it said in a statement.

Covering a total area of almost 8,700 sqm, with 5,443 sqm for warehouses and 1,373 sqm for office area, the development will include amenities for new and existing customers from different industries.

Rashed Bu Qara’a, COO, Dubai Aviation City Corporation, said: “The fourth complex of the agent warehouses and the development of a new logistics park are crucial elements in our long-term expansion strategy as a new wave of investors and multinationals are now preparing to set up operations within the Logistics District.”

DWC is also developing a customer inspection yard at gate 4, in conjunction with Dubai Customs, which will include truck-scanning machines and is designed for both normal and temperature-controlled cargo.

Overall, Dubai World Central consists of eight districts specialising in aviation, logistics, commercial, real estate and exhibitions.

The Logistics District – a free zone – is located next to the new Al Maktoum International Airport and currently counts Aramex, Kuehne + Nagel, Panalpina, INL, RSA and Hellmann-Calipar as its clients.
