World’s second busiest international hub reports strong volumes from Western and Eastern Europe.

Dubai International, the world’s second busiest international hub, registered a record 5.8 million passengers in March.

The 20.6 per cent year-on-year growth was the fourth consecutive month the airport handled more than five million passengers and marked the highest volumes since August 2012.

The largest increase in total passenger number were recorded on Western European routes although Eastern Europe was the fastest-expanding market (up 67.9 per cent) driven by Emirates’ launch of new services to Poland and flydubai’s service to Macedonia.

Dubai International recorded a total of 31,713 aircraft movements in March, up 8.3 per cent, and 213,748 tonnes of cargo, an increase of 14.7 per cent.

Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports said growth has also been buoyed by the opening of Concourse A, the world’s first purpose-built A380 facility.
