DP World to invest GBP1m in Prince William’s Earthshot Prize innovators

The announcement was made during Prince William’s first official visit to the UAE and Expo Dubai 2020

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group chairman and CEO of DP World, announced the company will invest GBP1m to support the work of two Earthshot Prize finalists: Coral Vita from the Bahamas and Australia’s Living Seawalls.

The Earthshot Prize – an award set up by Prince William and the Royal Foundation – is a new global prize designed to incentivise change and help repair our planet over the next ten years. Last year, DP World together with Expo 2020 Dubai became a Global Alliance Founding Partner of the Earthshot Prize.

The announcement was made during Prince William’s visit to the first-ever Earthshot Prize Innovation Showcase at the DP World Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. The Duke of Cambridge, who is on his first official trip to the UAE,
arrived in Dubai on February 9. He visited Expo 2020 Dubai on February 10 to join in the UK National Day celebrations, which included the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay.

Prince William was joined by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and chairman and chief executive, Emirates Airline and Group, and other dignitaries at the event.

Applauding DP World’s gesture, Prince William said: “We have reason to hope, our future is not yet set, and while the task ahead is great, we still have the ability to repair our planet, and create a better world.

“The Earthshot mission is more than just a prize. It’s a global team effort to spark urgent optimism and game-changing innovation to transform our future. I’m inviting all of you to join the Earthshot team and support our finalists – the eco-innovators – to take their solutions to scale.”

DP World’s group chairman and CEO said: “Innovative technologies will play a major role in achieving global targets in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and we are excited to invest in both Coral Vita and Living Seawalls as part of our efforts to develop technologies that address issues facing marine ecosystems.

“As Global Alliance Founding Partners with Expo Dubai 2020 and as a logistics business with a network across 69 countries around the world, we look forward to working closely with The Royal Foundation and in the promotion of The Earthshot Prize.”
