Covid-19: UAE reports one additional death, 240 new cases

The number of Covid-19 fatalities in the country has now reached nine

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) in the UAE announced 240 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, as well as one death, confirmed as a 51-year-old Asian patient.

The deceased was also suffering from chronic diseases, including kidney failure.

The number of Covid-19 fatalities has now reached nine, official news agency WAM reported.

Since its outbreak, the virus has afflicted a total of 1,264 individuals in the UAE.

The newly diagnosed cases were detected upon examining people who came in contact with previously infected patients and did not comply with preventative measures.

”A number of cases resulted from international travel. The newly diagnosed patients of various nationalities are in a stable condition and receiving the necessary medical care,” the ministry said.

As many as 12 additional cases have recovered across the country, taking the total number of recoveries to 108.

Health authorities in the UAE urged the public to adopt healthy practices to safeguard themselves from contracting the contagion.

On Thursday, April 2, the UAE extended the suspension of entry for all foreign nationals holding valid UAE residence visas by two more weeks.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has requested those holding valid UAE visas and now staying abroad, to register in the ‘Tawajudi for Residents” service which has been recently launched through its website to facilitate their safe return to the UAE in emergency situations.

The UAE has also suspended most flights in and out of the country and has stopped issuing visas on arrival for all nationalities, except for diplomatic passport holders.
