Logsdail London

Leonard Logsdail was the youngest tailor ever to open a bespoke shop on London’s world-famous Savile Row. The tailor now serves the Hollywood elite, making the suits in the Michael Douglas blockbuster Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. As well as being a popular name in Tinsletown, Logsdail’s shop in Dubai’s Al Quoz district is a firm favourite.

With its tailors of 30 years’ experience and personal tuition from Logsdail himself, Logsdail London turns around classic, smart shirts in 48 hours while also creating suits, jackets and trousers.

Suits start from Dhs4,000. Shirts from Dhs500.

Made 2 Measure

Founded by husband and wife Kemlesh and Priya Ramchandani, Made 2 Measure offers a wide range of patterns and colours to choose from. Making what can be a daunting selection easier, all shirt materials are 100 per cent cotton and come at one set price.

Located on Dubai’s Jumeirah Beach Road, Made 2 Measure is perfect for busy business types as regular customers have their size and fit noted for future visits, making repeat experiences effortless and easy.

Suits start from Dhs1,800 – shirts from Dhs300

Orchid Tailors and Textiles

If you ask around for a good tailor in the UAE, you will keep hearing the same name over and over. Abu Dhabi’s Orchid Tailors And Textiles are as adept at copying your favourite shirt or dress as they are at copying a photo of your dream designer outfit.

Located on 3rd/Khalifa Street, opposite Cairo Fabrics – a conveniently-placed store to pick up your material before heading into Orchid – it’s best not to visit in December; the shop’s tailor Mr Santa – yes, that’s his real name – is busy enough as it is.

Santoba Tailors & Co.

Located amongst the hustle and bustle of Bur Dubai’s Meena Bazaar, Santoba is a Savile Row-inspired idyll of sophistication. According to the shop’s director, Prakash Lalwani, its clientele is made up of loyal expats who “appreciate how a well-made suit can make a man look or feel.”

One fitting is usually all it takes at Santoba. For an added extra, have your initials stitched into the shirt cuffs while a huge range of buttons, lining and pocket details will give your purchase extra individuality.

Shirts start from Dhs220.

Bespoke @ Deepa’s

This list wouldn’t be complete without a Satwa-based tailor. Bespoke @ Deepa’s is just one of the stores the larger Deepa’s business name owns in Dubai’s Satwa district. If you can’t find the right fabric and colour from their selection at Bespoke – which is unlikely given their large range – then it’s worth visiting its sister Deepa’s Textile Store just round the corner.

A Satwa favourite for many a year, Bespoke @ Deepa’s is as highly regarded for its copies as it is for its own designs. Take in your favourite suit or shirt and have them replicated in your choice of fabrics and colour, with the finest details beautifully finished.

Suits start at Dhs1,200. Shirts from Dhs150.

Top Tips

Logsdail London’s manager Simon Parton’s guide to going bespoke:

– Decide what you want the suit or shirt for – business or casual wear.
– Always stick to natural fibres and avoid any of the ‘non iron’ cottons.
– Never compromise; always look for mother of pearl buttons
– Avoid pockets on business shirts
– Wear double cuffs with a suit and button cuffs for casual and weekend shirts
– Select a collar that suits your neck. Avoid a wide collar if you have a short neck, or a short collar point if you are tall and have a long neck.
