The initiative will introduce upscale hotel brands to the emirate for the first time, with the Eastern Mangroves hotel set to be rebranded as a Waldorf Astoria luxury resort. The renovation will include an upgrade of premium rooms and suites, enhancements to the promenade and marina, and the introduction of a new retail mix. In a significant reimagining, the Yas Plaza Hotels will transform into the world’s largest Vignette Collection resort under the IHG brand. This six-hotel complex will feature a private beach and newly added beachfront suites. Aldar is also set to reimagine its desert resort in the Al Dhafra region, formerly known as Tilal Liwa, into a luxury escape that will join the Vignette Collection. Additionally, Nurai Island will undergo major refurbishments and expansions, ensuring its status as Abu Dhabi’s ultra-luxury island destination. “The UAE continues to enhance its appeal as a premier international leisure and tourism destination,” said Talal Al Dhiyebi, group CEO of Aldar. “We see tremendous opportunities to reposition our hotel portfolio to meet expected demand in the luxury segment.” Aldar’s investments reflect tourism growth and demand Aldar’s investments come as Abu Dhabi experiences a significant rise in tourism, with a 27 per cent increase in hotel guests in 2023, driven by a 54 per cent surge in international arrivals. The emirate aims to attract 39.3 million visitors annually by 2030, bolstered by recent infrastructure developments, including a new terminal at Zayed International Airport. The Eastern Mangroves hotel will deliver Waldorf Astoria’s signature service and unique experiences, while Nurai Island will see renovations across its existing villas and facilities, along with new additions to enhance guest offerings. In parallel, Aldar is elevating its flagship hotels in Ras Al Khaimah, with phased renovations planned for Rixos Bab Al Bahr and DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & Spa Marjan Island, aligning with the emirate’s tourism growth strategy. This comprehensive transformation reflects Aldar’s commitment to luxury hospitality and its strategic vision for growth, which includes the upcoming Nobu Hotel on Saadiyat Island, set to debut in 2027. In recent news, Aldar announced the launch of Yas Riva, a new luxury villa community on Yas Island. The development offers both canal-front and canal-accessible homes, designed to provide residents with a tranquil waterfront lifestyle.
