Abu Dhabi National Oil Company for Distribution (ADNOC Distribution) announced that it has reduced prices for refilling liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders at its service stations in the northern emirates.

The move, which took effect from January 10, 2014, is applicable in Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain.

The price of a 25 lbs (11.3kg) capacity cylinder has been reduced to Dhs54 from Dhs61, while the retail price of a 50 lbs (22.6kg) capacity LPG cylinder – available only at Riffa station in Dibba-Fujairah, has been cut from Dhs122 to Dhs105, ADNOC said in a statement.

“The price reduction came in line with the lower prices of global gas production, where prices are subject to change according to the change of global gas prices,” said Khalid Hadi, VP of Marketing and Corporate Communications, ADNOC Distribution.

Hadi added that the prices will continue to be monitored to reflect changes in the prices of LPG in global markets.

ADNOC Distribution currently sells over 3,000 25 lbs gas cylinders daily at its service stations in the northern emirates.

The price cut follows a recent directive from the UAE’s Ministry of Economy giving LPG companies in the country one month – beginning January 1, to reduce the price of cooking gas cylinders by 30 to 35 per cent.

The ministry said that no approvals were given to LPG companies to hike prices in 2013, and asked them to bring the prices to 2012 levels.
