Algerian businessman Issad Rebrab was ranked as the 9th Richest Arab of 2016 by Forbes as his food business Cevital thrived. Originally an accountant, Rebrab began accumulating wealth after investing in a metal company in 1971. By 1995, Rebrab had expanded into food, founding sugar, vegetable oil and margarine producer Cevital three years later. Last year, the company posted $3.5bn in sales and launched a $150m construction project to build a sugar refinery in Sri Lanka. As Algeria’s first ever billionaire, he remains today the richest man in the former French colony. All five of his children also work for Cevital.
