There are problems on the horizon for Issad Rebrab and Cevital, with the company facing a potentially long and costly lawsuit brought by the Italian government, as well as dwindling support from the public and private sectors in Algeria. But the country’s largest private firm continues to make bold moves in the market, including plans for a $350m sugar refinery and oilseed-processing complex in Ethiopia and the acquisition of French manufacturer Bradt among them. Still Algeria’s richest man, Rebrab will hope his vast success and experience will mitigate what could be a difficult 2018.
