Temperatures plummeted across the UAE on Friday, with heavy winds also causing a major accident on Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road.

Three cars were set ablaze in the accident and according to initial reports, one person was injured and has been evacuated to the hospital for treatment, the Dubai Media Office said on Twitter.

“Civil Defence teams are dealing with the blaze,” it said.

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) also briefly suspended Dubai Metro service between Jafiliyah and Business Bay Stations “as a safety precaution” due to the falling debris on the metro tracks from the crane accident.

Authorities urged motorists to drive carefully with the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) warning of increasing winds and poor visibility.

The Dubai Media Office also confirmed that “due to bad weather conditions and to ensure safety of everyone”, Global Village will be closed on Friday and will resume operations on Saturday.

Temperatures also dropped across the country, even touching -2 degrees in the UAE’s highest mountain – Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah, the NCMS said.

The NCMS also posted videos of snow in Jebel Jais.
