The decision of US president Donald Trump to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel “could throw a life buoy to terrorist and armed groups, which have begun to lose ground in the region”, said the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, expressed the concerns of the UAE during a meeting with a delegation from the Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP) at a meeting in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, according to state news agency WAM.

Sheikh Mohamed and the 50-member WINEP delegation discussed a wide range of political issues of mutual concern, added WAM, as well as ways of enhancing strategic bilateral cooperation.

The Crown Prince expressed his hope that the US administration would reconsider its move, which has been met with concern and condemnation from across the globe. He added that he hoped the US would work in an effective and neutral manner to draft ‘true principles for peace that serve all and realise development and stability in the region’, said WAM.
