UAE’s Majid Al Futtaim opens $700m Mall of Egypt

The shopping centre is said to include North Africa’s first artificial snow ski slope

UAE shopping centre operator Majid Al Futtaim today opened its Dhs2.6bn ($707.9m) Mall of Egypt project, dubbed the country’s first super-regional mall.

The site features an artificial ski slope, a 2,473 capacity cinema and family entertainment concept Magic Planet.

It also includes 165,000 square metres of gross leasable area with 350 local and international retailers, 6,500 parking spaces and environmentally friendly design elements.

The mall is part of the company’s Dhs5.1bn investment strategy in Egypt, including Dhs70m in the surrounding road network. MAF said the attraction would create 41,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The company is also building major malls in Saudi Arabia and Oman, with the latter estimated to cost $700m.
