UAE national holiday confirmed for Sunday

The holiday will celebrate the birthday of Prophet Mohammad

Sunday December 11 will be a public and private sector holiday in the UAE to celebrate the birthday of Prophet Mohammad, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources has announced.

In a tweet the authority said that 12th Rabee Al Awwal, 1438 AH on the Islamic calendar, will correspond to December 11, 2016

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation also confirmed the plans in a post on its website.

“The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has declared Sunday (December 11th 2016) an official paid holiday for private sector employees to celebrate the Birthday anniversary of Prophet Mohammed (pbuh),” the post read.

“HE Saqr Ghobash, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, made the announcement as per the implementation of the provisions of Article 74 of the Federal Law No.8 of 1980 concerning labour relations and its amendments.”

The minister wished all citizens and residents of the country happiness and prosperity on the occasion and prayed for further progress and wealth to all Arab and Islamic nations.

Many UAE citizens and residents are expected to use the long weekend to travel.

Work will resume on Monday December 12.
