The UAE has declared a holiday for the public sector on January 12 to celebrate the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday.

Ministries and federal departments will remain closed on Sunday, 11th of Rabi Al Awwal, 1435 Hijiri, which corresponds as the 12th day of 2014.

The private sector will also be given a one-day holiday.

Employees that usually work a one-day weekend will have Saturday 11th off while employees that normally have a two-day weekend will be given Sunday 12th off.

The public holiday was announced through a circular issued by Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qattami, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Board of the Federal Authority for Human Resources (FAHR).
