Two UAE pilots died in Yemen after their aircraft crashed following a technical failure, the General Command of the UAE Armed Forces announced.

Major pilot Ali Saeed Saif Al Mesmari and first lieutenant Pilot Badr Yahiya Mohammed Al Marasheda were carrying out their duties as part of the Saudi-led Arab coalition’s ‘Operation Restoring Hope’ in Yemen, official news agency WAM reported.

The General Command of the UAE Armed Forces offered its condolences to the families of the victims.

The Saudi-led coalition has been fighting Houthi rebels in Yemen since March 2015, in a bid to restore President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi to power.

The conflict has killed thousands and left many homeless in Yemen.

Several Saudi and UAE soldiers have also been killed in the country.

In August, four members of the UAE’s armed forces died in a helicopter crash in Yemen during a routine mission, after their plane experienced technical difficulties.
