Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development has announced Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani as its new chief executive officer.

The sister of the Emir, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Than, Sheikha Hind will add the role to her existing title of vice-chairperson, and will run the foundation alongside the chairperson – her mother Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser.

Qatar Foundation is a private, non-profit organisation that supports and operates programmes in Qatar in three main areas: education, science and research, and community development.

In a statement, the foundation said that Sheikha Hind will “lead a unified executive team, responsible for enhancing and implementing strategy and budget, driving performance, and strengthening the relationships with QF’s various partners and stakeholders”.

Launched in 1995 by then-Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the foundation is based on the stated desire to help Qatar move from a carbon economy to a knowledge economy.

Numerous institutions, groups, initiatives and companies have since become Qatar Foundation entities, including Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Qatar National Research Fund, Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, Qatar National Library, Qatar Science and Technology Park, Vodafone Qatar, Qatar Solar Technologies and many more.
