Saudi Interpol says extradited citizen facing $8m fine

Saudi Interpol said on Monday it had successfully extradited a citizen facing a court-issued SAR29.65m ($7.9m) fine from abroad.

The organisation said in a statement that it had issued an international circular to prosecute the citizen “as part of efforts to counter criminal activities and bring the perpetrators to justice”.

The identity of the individual, who was detained on Sunday, was not disclosed.

Saudi Interpol said earlier this month it had also arrested a citizen accused of issuing bad cheques for “huge amounts” of money.

The kingdom engaged in a major corruption crackdown at the end of last year that saw hundreds of businessman, former ministers and royals detained.

Many were later released after settling with the government.
