Qatar Airways has launched three-times weekly flights between Doha and Chengdu, its sixth destination in China.

The route is operated by a two-class Airbus A330 with 36 business and 248 economy seats.

The capital of China’s south-west Sichuan Province, Chengdu boasts the largest building in the world, the 1.76 million sqm New Century Global Centre, and is renowned for having the country’s spiciest cuisine and being home to the rare Giant Panda.

But its commercial credentials are no less significant, with its 130 sqm hi-tech Industrial Development Zone housing more than 33,000 companies, 87 of which are in the Fortune 500.

The two-terminal Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is located 16km south-west of downtown and one of its runways is A380-compliant. Last year it handled 31.6 million passengers.
