Qatar Airways has announced the arrival of its first flight from Doha to Sydney and start of its third route to Australia.

The route will be operated daily by a Boeing 777-300 aircraft, which will fly from Doha at 8:10pm and arrive in Sydney at 6:05pm the next day.

The return journey will set off at 22:20 and arrive at 5:05am the next day.

“We are delighted to be able to offer passengers flying from Sydney the opportunity to connect to more than 150 places on our global network via our state-of-the-art airport in Doha,” said CEO Akbar Al Baker

“I would like to personally thank Sydney Airport and city authorities for welcoming us today and we look forward to strengthening our relationship with them and the people of Australia in the coming years as we all go places together.”

Qatar Airways claimed the new route would generate 3,000 jobs in New South Wales and contribute AUD$240m to the local economy.

It will provide 84 tonnes of cargo capacity per week adding to the 301 tonnes carried out of Perth and Melbourne by the airline

“Australian exports to Doha grew by 23 per cent last year, and the state of Qatar’s high demand for livestock, cereal, meat, dairy products and crops provides a significant opportunity for Australian exporters,” added Al Baker.
