Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has announced plans for a second luxury hotel and branded residence in Dubai after signing an agreement with Wasl Asset Management Group.

The Downtown Dubai hotel will anchor the 63-storey mixed-use Wasl Tower on Sheikh Zayed Road and is scheduled for completion in late 2020.

It will feature 257 rooms, suites and serviced apartments located from floor 16 to 38 with views of the Burj Khalifa.

A further 144 residences will be located on the upper floors and include private access, a dedicated lounge and direct access to the hotel.

Food and beverage options at the hotel will include a rooftop bar, signature dining experience, an all-day dining venue, poolside bar and restaurant, lobby lounge, club lounge, cigar room and cake shop.

There will also be banqueting and meeting space for business events, a spa with 12 treatment rooms, an outdoor swimming pool and landscaped garden terrace.

Amsterdam-based UN Studio has been appointed as architect of the building.

“Dubai continues to develop as one of the world’s leading destinations, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to operate two luxury hotels in the city. We look forward to collaborating with wasl Group to create a second iconic property and to be extending our brand’s presence in the Middle East,” said James Riley, group CEO of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group.

The hotel group will also open the Mandarin Oriental Jumeira Beach resort in partnership with Wasl in 2018.

The 200-room hotel, which was originally scheduled for completion this year, will feature 12 over-water villas and nine restaurants and bars.
