Dubai-based mall operator Majid Al Futtaim has announced an investment of Dhs600m to expand City Centre Ajman.

The expansion will see the mall almost double in size, from 29,000 square metres to 52,000 sqm.

The redevelopment will include 10 new food and beverage outlets with both al fresco and indoor seating. Some of the brands will also be making their debut in Ajman.

The mall’s public facilities will also be enhanced, with additional prayer rooms and restrooms incorporating water-saving fittings and LED lights installed throughout the premises.

Once complete, the mall will feature 150 retail and dining outlets and an expanded VOX Cinemas with 4DX screens and specially-designed children’s theatres.

The mall’s expansion anticipated to create 500 new jobs, and is slated for completion in the third quarter of 2017, a statement said.

It will be followed by an additional refurbishment of the existing mall – which was opened in 1998.

“The UAE’s northern emirates are a key growth area for Majid Al Futtaim,” said Kim McInnes, CEO of Shopping Malls at Majid Al Futtaim – Properties.

“As Ajman’s population increases and a growing number of tourists visit this part of the country, the redevelopment of City Centre Ajman will deliver the highest standard of design and diversity of choice while contributing significantly to the emirate’s economic and employment landscapes.”

City Centre Ajman’s redevelopment is part of Majid Al Futtaim’s recent commitment to invest a further Dhs30bn in the UAE by the end of 2026. The move will bring the company’s total UAE investment to Dhs48bn.

Under the strategy, the company plans to add malls, hotels, cinemas, restaurants, Carrefour hypermarkets and leisure destinations in the country in the coming years.

This will include 10 new shopping malls under its City Centre brand, a new landmark regional mall in Dubai as part of a mixed-use community, the first super-regional mall in Sharjah and its first mall in Abu Dhabi at Masdar City.
