Dense fog delayed dozens of flights into the UAE on Monday morning as the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) urged motorists to exercise caution.

Information from aviation tracking site flighttracker showed at least 80 inbound flights into Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah were affected in the 3:00am to 9:00am period.

Several outbound flights at the airports were also affected.

Motorists were warned to follow traffic guidelines as visibility dropped as low as 200m in some areas.

NCM said fog would form across much of the country on Monday and Tuesday due to overnight humidity. Satellite imagery showed the extent of fog coverage at 8:15am on Monday.

The Dubai Airports website showed major delays to more than 40 flights from around 6:40am with several inbound landings pushed back to up to two hours after the intended arrival time.

Passengers are urged to consult airline and airport websites for more information.
