The exodus of people flying home from Dubai over Christmas is expected to reach record-breaking levels this year, according to Emirates.

More than 535,000 people will be travelling with the Dubai-based airline between December 17 and 19, a rise of 14 per cent on last year’s festive period.

On December 18 alone, more than 34,000 people are expected to check into Emirates’ Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport.

The top destinations out of Dubai include Beirut, London, Bangkok, Istanbul, Karachi and Cairo.

The airline also expects large passenger volumes to come into Dubai from London, Karachi, Mumbai, Milan and Delhi.

Emirates Airport Services divisional senior vice president Mohammed Mattar said: “With record breaking numbers of passengers flying with Emirates this week, it is our mission to make their journey as hassle free as possible. Additional staff will be on hand at the airport to assist and provide guidance to customers.

“Due to increased passenger volumes at check-in and security screenings, we ask all travellers to ensure they are aware of check-in and gate closure timings.”
