Dubai Police has honoured a Starbucks employee who handed in a bag containing $118,000 in cash.

The emirate’s police force said the employee passed the bag over to officers after a tourist in a café in Mall of the Emirates forgot it.

His actions resulted in the return of the lost bag, which also contained passports, to its owner.

Nepalese national Miran Karaki was honoured by senior officers in a ceremony at his workplace on Tuesday.

Dubai Police deputy director of the general department of investigation, colonel Mohammed Aqeel Ahli, hoped Karaki’s example would provide an incentive for others to engage in honesty and good conduct.

The worker was presented with a certificate of thanks and appreciation and said he was proud of his actions, according to a Dubai Police statement.

It was unclear why the tourist was carrying around such a large sum of money.
