Passengers were forced to wait in long queues at Dubai Metro stations this morning after an apparent technical malfunction.

Commuters reported long delays on the metro’s Red Line from around 7am with particularly large lines seen at the ADCB, Bur Juman, Damac and JLT stations.

The Red Line runs the full length of Dubai from Al Rashidiya to UAE Exchange with 29 stations in total.

One user posted a picture of the queue at Bur Juman station on Twitter. They said it had not moved for more than an hour.

Long lines were also pictured at other stations.

Services were said to be temporarily restored from some stations for around 40 minutes before being halted again at 8:25am.

A shortage of taxis was reported around key stations as commuters used other transport methods to get to work.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority said commuters between the Jumeirah Lake Towers and UAE Exchange stations were particularly affected by the technical fault.

Services were restored at around 12pm, according to the authority’s Twitter account.
