Despite the imposition of the value added tax (VAT) this year, Dubai’s retail sector is expected to record average growth of 5.6 per cent over the 2018-2021 period, according to recent research from the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The value of retail sales in the emirate is anticipated to reach $43.8bn by 2021, the research found.
The main factors expected to boost retail growth include the rising number of tourists, high occupancy levels at major retail centres and shopping malls, high per capita income, strong international brand presence, and a consumer base that likes to spend on retail, food and beverage and leisure activities, the report stated.
