Air Arabia Jordan, part-owned by Dubai-listed Air Arabia, will launch operations from its Amman base on May 18, the company said on Wednesday.

Air Arabia, which bought a 49 per cent stake in Petra Airlines in January, has rebranded the airline as Air Arabia Jordan and assumed management control.

The carrier’s maiden flight will be to Kuwait City on May 18, with regular services to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, Erbil in Iraq and Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt also starting that week.

Further routes will follow this year as the airline serves Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, a company statement said.

Air Arabia’s other hubs are its home base in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, Alexandria and Casablanca.
